Yummy Homemade Brown Sugar Cinnamon Syrup for Coffee

Cook Time 15 minutes

Equipment

  • Small Pot
  • Whisk
  • Jar with Lid (for storing)

Ingredients

  • 2 Cups Brown Sugar
  • 2 Cups Water
  • 1 pinch Salt
  • 1 tbsp Vanilla
  • 1 tsp Cinnamon

Instructions

  • Add the brown sugar, water, and a pinch of salt to a small pot. Heat over medium low, stirring occasionally, until the sugar has fully dissolved.
  • Increase the heat slightly to medium and bring the mixture to a simmer. Simmer for 10-15 minutes until slightly reduced and thickened.
  • Remove from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and cinnamon. The syrup will thicken as it cools.
  • Allow the syrup to cool, then transfer to a jar or air tight container with a lid.
  • Enjoy! Tip: Make sure to shake or stir the syrup before adding to your coffee. The cinnamon will settle slightly at the bottom.

Notes

  • If you would like a thicker consistency, allow the syrup to simmer longer until the mixture has reduced by half. Remember, it will thicken while cooling as well.
  • Tip: Make sure to shake or stir the syrup before adding to your coffee. The cinnamon will settle slightly at the bottom.

☕ Coffee Notes (Iced vs Hot Drinks)

For iced coffee:
Let the syrup cool completely before using so it doesn’t melt the ice too quickly and dilute your drink. Add 1–2 tablespoons to the espresso or cold brew and stir well before adding milk or cream.

For hot coffee:
This syrup dissolves beautifully in hot drinks. Start with 1 tablespoon and then adjust to your sweetness preference. A little goes a long way! It’s perfect in hot coffee, lattes, cappuccinos, or homemade brown sugar shaken espresso-style drinks.

Flavor pairing tip:
This syrup pairs especially well with any milk combination you like – a splash of creamer or half and half, regular milk, oat milk, and almond milk. Think cozy coffee shop vibes at home!
